We flew from LA to NYC and I immediately felt at home. Add in two more trips to NYC this month and it's a serious dose of home sweet (second) home.

Re: http://donaldryan.net/post/428369232

*sigh* I miss LA. During the blizzards I spent a few hours browsing job ads at UCLA. I'm willing to downgrade to the no. 5 hospital if it means no blizzards (don't tell anyone at Hopkins that I said that, k? lol!)

Re: http://donaldryan.net/post/419752804

Enjoy your trips. Oh. Mah. Lawd. The temptation to duck tape him to the bed was almost too much to bear. Made the amphetamine addiction guy look calm. He kept pulling various tubes out but we had a serious talk when he decided the foley was next to go. Despite the theo, he headed the warnings that yanking the foley would not be nearly as much fun as he thought. lol!

Re: 30 Days

You need to post your workout songlist. No? Not so much?

Remember that Perry Noble story about the plane in Kenya with the "In Case of an Emergency, cut here"? Aerolineas Argentinas planes are slightly better, but not much. I'm pretty sure I would have died of there was a problem on the plane. That should help you sleep better at night.

Also, Asuncion's airport is about the size of a shoebox, so pretty much nobody knows if they're boarding the right plane until they get to the actual place where they check the tickets. If I had gone to the door about five feet to the left, I would have ended up in Chile.

Re: Take Two

Oh, I used to read this book to Daniel, too! I've tried to live by this rule myself as a director and senior manager of corporate communications. We're an internal service provider developing content, messaging, and providing graphic and website services. I've come up with three or four canned phrases that help to set our customers expectations. Here are a couple you can try out yourself:

"No promises, but based on what you've told me we're looking at a two-week job." (Translation - I'm confident the team can deliver within five days.)

"Friday is going to be tight request based on our current workload. We'll do our best." (Translation - Friday is doable.)

"We've got three other priority projects in-line in front of yours. I'll see what we can do. Best case right now you're looking at Wednesday before this will be done. (Translation - Monday is more likely)

"Getting this to you by Thursday will only be a problem if something with more priority is required. Worst case, you will get this midday Friday. (Translation - They will get it Thursday midday.)

This approach works with a team "if" you have a great grasp on your project load, your production schedule and your team's ability to execute consistently. As Don Ryan says in his post above.

"If you make a promise, keep it. If you aren’t sure you can deliver, under promise. If you fall short, no worries. If you exceed, good for you."

Dan Harris
"Helping Business Build Business By Blogging"
Blog: http://www.danonit.com/blog1
Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/8101...
e-mail: harrishammer@mac.com

Re: Cell Groups

We've been doing this for some time now but still in the process of training facilitators so those of us that got drafted do it every. single. week. Looking forward to phase 3 when we expand it to the whole church and drop it to once or twice a month. ;)

Ross, what is this platform rocker of which you speak? Does it involve letting him "have the floor"? Doesn't sound like such a great idea for someone with dementia. ;) His wife might help you have a little "accident". Haha! Can't wait to call my mom and get the inside scoop on this. lol!

Re: Happy Valentine’s Day « Take Two

P.S. I come face to face with it frequently at work. A co-worker has made a promise to a customer, and then failed to deliver for whatever reason. I get the angry customer face to face, and have to resolve the situation as best as possible.

Re: I Think I Screwed Up « Take Two

Great minds, Chantell, great minds.
